The switch to Webify’s new office space has been fantastic in all but one way: I now have to commute on my sportbike through the biggest speed trap in Austin, FM 2222. On the third day in our offices I got a speeding ticket. Ever since then I have been trying to figure out how to avoid a massive amount of tickets.
Mind you, folks, I’m not trying to ride at twice the limit or something ridiculous like that. I want to be able to ride a comfortable rate (i.e. 10 over) without having to scan behind every bush.
Some data:
1) I got my ticket at 8:20am (for 55 in a 45)
2) On monday I saw a pair of bike cops at the corner convenience store at 8:00am.
An assumption:
a) The job of a police officer is like any other job with regular shifts and work patterns.
My current theory is they get to 2222 around 8am and start ticketing soon after. For the last few days I have gotten up 15-30 minutes earlier so that I can test out this theory and so far I have seen no LEOs. I’m crossing my fingers that my commute will remain reasonably fun without undue expense.

Let’s think this through. Looking at a map, it would seem that the distance from your house to work is.. um.. 5 miles (plug in the actual mileage in the following calculations for a more precise result). At 45 miles per hour, you are going to travel that 5 miles in 6 minutes and 40 seconds. Speed up to 55 MPH and blaze to your cubicle in 5 minutes and 27 seconds (stoplights don’t exist in this perfect world). So, you are getting up 15-30 minutes early so that you can save one minute and 13 seconds travel time??? Must be quite an adrenalin rush at 55 vs 45.

heh. What he said, though I’ve no idea how close / far work is from your home. Dude, can’t you joyride on weekends (at 6am if you must)?
I guess half the fun is in figuring out how to slide around the system.
