My co-worker and liege, Master of the Known Universe Whose Magnanimity Knows No Bounds, Lord Zex, showed me a neat trick with Firefox the other day. Go to Organize Bookmarks, select the bookmark for your mailbox and in the Keywords field, type “mail”. Close the dialog, hit Ctrl-L to highlight the address bar and just type “mail”.
Cool, huh? Now you can associate any other abbreviations for your common bookmarks and access them quickly with the keyboard.
And yes, the Lord Zex thing is an inside joke.

Lord Zex might want to rethink this. Isn’t it even easier to just have the link to your mail as a bookmark in the bookmark bar near the top of the page? No Ctrl-L, no typing… just one simple click. Or am I not understanding something?

It’s useful for those of us who try to minimize mouse usage.

And there’s nothing stopping you from having the bookmark in the bookmark bar AND having a keyword associated with it.

And by the way, your directions were incomplete. After the “select the bookmark” part, you need to say, “then select ‘properties’” to bring up the “keywords” field.
