The brand new Tivo Fall 2007 update activates the Tivo network services so Series 3 users can now shift video. My main concern lately is being able to watch downloaded video on my big TV. The Tivo has an unsupported feature called TivoToComeBack which allows the Tivo to pull video off a machine and play it. This is basically what I need, with some caveats.
- Download Tivo Desktop 1.9.3 for Mac OSX
- Activate the Video sharing via the hidden setting
- Use TiVoizer to convert video into a format the Tivo can read
Works reasonably well, albeit a little time consuming since the video does need to be transcoded. In my perfect world, the Tivo would:
- Support mainstream formats like MPEG4, Xvid and DivX.
- Watch a directory on the PC and pull video off it automatically.
But for now, this will work.
